With nearly 20 years of establishment and development, the Faculty of Chemical Engineering (FCE) – Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City has accomplished many achievements, including the achievements of scientific research by both lecturers and students.
Teachers - Those who inspire
Over the years, the scientific research of the FCE has always been highly appreciated. With a highly qualified teaching staff (with doctoral degree or higher accounting for 30%), graduated from prestigious national and international universities, this is the basis for the Faculty of Chemical Engineering to implement research topics not only academically but also applicably valuable. In 2020 alone, the Faculty of Chemical Engineering has had 76 international articles, along with 51 articles (August 2021), 51unit-level topics by lecturers and students, 4 state-level topics, 22 institutional-level research awards, 3 Eureka at Hồ Chí Minh City Level, 3 international inventions, 1 useful solution and 46 domestic magazine articles from 2015 to 2021.
According to Assoc.Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Văn Cường - Head of The Faculty of Chemical Engineering: "Every year, the Faculty's Board of Directors launched the science research movement in lecturers and students in order to maintain the faculty's research tradition. Lecturers will guide and equip students with the knowledge and methods of implementing the topics. On the other hand, the Faculty's Board of Directors also coordinates with the Scientific Council at all levels to monitor the progress, comment, evaluate and test the research topics. In order for the research activities to grow in depth, the Faculty has made the research work an indicator for task completion of the lecturer in charge; grading and evaluating emulation on a student achievement scale. The Faculty of Chemical Engineering has awarded students with highly appreciated research works, initiatives and inventions, as well as create conditions for students to participate in innovative awards on research."
Students continue their passion
Over the years, the student reasearch movement launched by the Faculty of Chemical Engineering has encouraged students to strive in learning and promote their ability and passion for technology. Every year, the Faculty allocates funding to create conditions for teachers to guide and students to experiment with ideas and topics. With the support and encouragement of the Faculty's Board of Directors and the enthusiasm to participate in the guidance of lecturers, the number of students participating in the report as well as the quality of research topics is increasing. In 2021 alone, 501 research topics have been implemented among students with varied topics, covering all training majors, of which many are highly practical. It is worth noting that over the past time, many students have started their start-up path with ideas and topics of research right from their days at university. Dr. Phạm Thị Hồng Phượng - Head of Chemical Engineering - Materials Department is currently the head of textile-and-garment enterprises supporting projects said, "Nowadays, students are very good. Many of them are proactive, eager to learn and be creative. As a teacher, we try to encourage students to pursue their passion. The most important thing is to determine the direction for the students to achieve the best results."
In order to promote the spirit of research, exploration and creativity among students, the Faculty of Chemical Engineering regularly organizes competitions to create a useful playground for young people to practice research skills, while having the conditions to exchange and share professional knowledge such as "Women and Chemistry", "Chemistry and Application in Life", "Lipstick Creation", "Whirlwind of Chemistry",... Trần Thị Thanh Phúc (DHHO9ATT Class – CHHHO7B) shared: "During my studies at IUH, I participated in seminars on my major, I felt that I loved and learned how to do scientific research from the teachers and seniors in the previous course. After completing the Bachelor's program, the teachers of the Faculty of Chemical Engineering encouraged and supported me so that I could continue to fulfill my passion for research by studying for a Master's program at the university."
The training paralelled with the promotion of scientific research in the Faculty of Chemical Engineering has enhanced professional qualifications and soft skills for students. More than 95% of its students get a job as soon as they graduate or within six months of graduation. In August 2018, the Chemical Engineering Technology Training Program was one of the first four programs of IUH acquiring the international quality standard AUN - QA.
In 2021, according to Scimagoir's ranking, the field of Chemistry of Industrial University of Hồ Chí Minh City was ranked 713th in the world and 6th university in Vietnam. Also in 2021, according to the QS Ranking, the training program of Engineering Technology is rated 3 Stars. This is the effort of lecturers, learners and students studying Chemistry and related fields.
