INTRODUCTION TO THE INDUSTRIAL UNIVERSITY OF HO CHI MINH CITY

The Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City traces its origins to Gò Vấp Vocational School, which was established by the Don Bosco congregation on November 11, 1956, in Hạnh Thông Commune, Gò Vấp District, Gia Định Province. In 1968, the institution was renamed Don Bosco Private Junior Technical Secondary School. On January 31, 1970, it was further reorganized into Don Bosco Private Senior Technical Secondary School, commonly referred to as Don Bosco Technical Secondary School.

Following the reunification of the country, the school was taken over by the Southern Liberation forces and, on December 19, 1975, was transferred to the General Department of Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy and Electronics. In 1978, the institution was renamed Technical Workers School IV under the Ministry of Mechanical Engineering and Metallurgy. In 1994, it was merged with Chemical Secondary School II in Biên Hòa City to form Industrial Technical Secondary School IV, under the Ministry of Industry.

In March 1999, the institution was upgraded to Industrial College IV. In December 2004, it was officially elevated to university status as the Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City under Decision No. 214/2004/QĐ-TTg issued by the Prime Minister. The University was subsequently selected by the Prime Minister to pilot an innovative operational mechanism for the 2015–2017 period under Decision No. 902/QĐ-TTg dated June 23, 2015, with implementation commencing in the 2015–2016 academic year.

Today, the Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City stands as one of the largest higher education institutions in Vietnam, making significant contributions to education, scientific research, technology transfer, and the development of high-quality human resources for the country.
