Introduction
The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Technology was established in 2005. In 2011, the Mechanical Center and the Welding Center were merged into the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Technology. The predecessor of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Technology was the Machine Tools, Fitting, and Forging–Welding division of Don Bosco Technical Secondary School since 1968.
Functions and Responsibilities
The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Technology currently provides college-level training in Mechanical Engineering Technology, undergraduate programs in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, and Mechatronics Engineering Technology. The Faculty is also responsible for postgraduate training in Mechanical Engineering. Other activities include scientific research and technology transfer to support industrial production.
Faculty and Staff
The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Technology has six affiliated units, including four academic departments: Fundamentals and Design, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechatronics, and CAD/CAM/CNC; and two training workshops: the Mechatronics Workshop and the Machining Workshop. The Faculty has 78 lecturers and 4 staff members, including 3 Associate Professors and 13 PhD holders. In addition, there are 8 visiting lecturers who hold PhD degrees.
Activities and Notable Achievements
The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Technology is one of the leading faculties in technological training and is equipped with some of the most modern teaching equipment at the Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City. Facilities include modern laboratories and workshops such as Turning Workshop, Milling Workshop, CNC Turning–Milling Workshop with 3- and 5-axis machines, EDM wire cutting workshop, electrical discharge machining workshop, Welding Workshop, Fitting Workshop, Maintenance Workshop, Mechatronics Workshop, CAD/CAM laboratory, Measurement laboratory, Mechatronics practice laboratory, Pneumatic–Hydraulic laboratory, and Mechanics and Materials laboratory. All are equipped with devices from Festo and DMG from Germany, as well as equipment from Japan, Korea, and Taiwan.
During their studies, students have achieved many medals at the ASEAN Skills Competition: one silver medal in 2002, one gold medal in 2004, and two gold medals in 2006. Students have also participated in scientific research and won the first prize at the Eureka Student Research Award in Ho Chi Minh City in 2015.
The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Technology aims to develop and build laboratories that meet international and regional standards, equipped with 6-, 8-, and 9-axis CNC turning and milling machines. The Faculty is developing undergraduate programs based on ABET standards for three majors: Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Mechatronics. By 2020, two programs—Mechanical Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering—successfully achieved ABET accreditation. The Faculty also strengthens collaboration with enterprises to develop training programs, organize student internships, promote scientific research, and implement research and graduation projects in cooperation with industry.
