The Mitsubishi Electric Cup (MECA) is a rewarding platform that inspires and nurtures young talents in the field of industrial automation. On the morning of July 6, 2024, at Can Tho University, the final round of the MECA Contest 2024 took place, with the championship trophy awarded to the Spectra team from the Faculty of Electrical Technology at the Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City (IUH).

This year's final round featured the participation of 20 teams from 13 universities across the country. The teams designed and constructed an actual project model using Mitsubishi Electric equipment provided by the organizers, completing their projects within the specified time. The jury evaluated the projects based on criteria such as creativity, practical applicability, model complexity, intelligent engineering and automation solutions, environmental protection solutions, and the accuracy and stability of the model's operation.
How did Team Spectra conquer the Jury of the contest?
The Spectra team, consisting of four students (Ho Duc Dung, Le Hoai Giang, Pham Hoai Nam, and Vo Trung Tin) under the guidance of Mr. Le Long Ho and Ms. Lam Binh Minh, lecturers of the Faculty of Electrical Technology at the Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City, presented their project on "Product Assembly System and Automatic Warehouse Management." The team successfully navigated multiple competitions, demonstrating precise and innovative models. Ultimately, the MECA 2024 trophy was officially awarded to the students of the Faculty of Electrical Technology at IUH.

In the final round, the jury praised and highly appreciated the project implemented by the Spectra team. The project stood out for its innovative design, high practical applicability, and intelligent automation and engineering solutions.
Mr. Le Long Ho said, "After six months of working in the school's lab, I realized that the Spectra team embodies a progressive spirit, competence, and responsibility for their work. The students quickly adapted to lab activities and promptly began working on the project. After the model was completed, Ms. Minh and I were extremely satisfied with what the Spectra team achieved to meet the competition's timeline."
The standout feature of this year's model is its combination of SCADA and industrial communication networks to monitor, control, and collect data throughout the entire assembly process and automated warehouse management. The design uses a special 3D interface, integrating SCADA and IoT for remote monitoring over a global network. "It is very easy to connect the model of the entire assembly line and remote automated warehouse management to the global network anytime, anywhere. I believe this unique feature helped the team win over the demanding judges," Mr. Ho added.
IUH students – Affirming their position in the national arena
First held in 2020, MECA has attracted interest and participation from many leading universities across the country. After two successful seasons in 2020 and 2021, the competition continued to grow and expand in 2023 and 2024. This year, MECA has become a national platform, with participation from universities across the country. Sponsored by Mitsubishi Electric Vietnam Co., Ltd., MECA is a highly professional competition that offers students the opportunity to learn, share, improve their skills, and gain valuable academic experience.
The Faculty of Electrical Technology at IUH has been participating in MECA since its second season and has consistently achieved high rankings. In 2023, IUH students won the runner-up prize with the project "Automated Product Assembly System."
