M.Sc. Nguyễn Hữu Tình, Lecturer at the Faculty of Information Technology, Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City, led the two IUH teams at the OlpAI 2025 Final Round
In the Southern regional round, IUH teams competed with confidence and quickly made their mark as all three participating teams won awards, a rare achievement in AI-focused competitions. IUH earned two Third Prizes and one Consolation Prize. Among them, the IUH.ThinKat and IUH.FriendshipPower teams demonstrated consistent performance across Machine Learning, Computer Vision, and Natural Language Processing, competing on equal footing with strong teams from the University of Science Ho Chi Minh City, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, University of Information Technology Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, FPT University Ho Chi Minh City, and other institutions.
At the national round, the competition became even more intense. IUH.The ThinKat team, consisting of Huỳnh Phạm Gia Khang, Nguyễn Xuân Thiên, and Nguyễn Thanh Khôi, achieved a breakthrough by earning the highest score in the Natural Language Processing task, one of the most challenging components of the contest. The team ranked among the Top 3 overall and secured the National First Prize, which was awarded to the Top 5 outstanding teams. Meanwhile, the IUH.FriendshipPower team maintained stable performance, finished in the Top 15 nationwide, and received a Third Prize, completing a remarkable season for IUH. With these results, IUH officially ranked among the Top 3 universities nationwide at the Vietnam Student AI Olympiad 2025.
Although OlpAI 2025 marked its inaugural season, IUH quickly left a strong impression. Its distinctive style was defined by confidence, intelligence, breakthrough spirit, and inspiration. The competition attracted numerous universities across the country and brought together very competitive teams. According to the Organizing Committee, the national round examination was praised for both its content quality and difficulty. Contestants had to demonstrate sharp thinking across the three core pillars of artificial intelligence—Machine Learning, Computer Vision, and Natural Language Processing. This truly represented a contest of intellect and resilience.
IUH’s impact at OlpAI 2025 is reflected not only in its impressive list of awards but also in the convergence of three key factors. These include the persistent efforts of students who spent months optimizing Machine Learning models, experimenting with hyperparameters, and practicing with problem sets; the dedicated guidance of coaches who helped shape strategies and enhance team capabilities; and the forward-looking investment strategy of the IUH Board of Rectors, which identifies AI and Data Science as one of the university’s strategic priorities. This achievement, therefore, goes beyond medals, serving as clear evidence of innovation, technological mastery.
