On the morning of 25/10/2023, the Institute of Biotechnology and Food of the Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City (IUH) organized a scientific research workshop "Application of nanotechnology in the field of Food Safety and Agriculture".

The workshop on "Application of Nanotechnology in the Fields of Food Safety and Agriculture" took place at IUH, drawing the participation of nearly 100 researchers from both domestic and international backgrounds. During the seminar, Prof. Dr. Mengshi Lin from the University of Missouri-Columbia (USA) delivered a presentation titled "International Cooperation between Mizzou and IUH for the Advancement of Surface Enhanced Resonance Spectroscopy (SERS) Methods to Enhance Food Safety."

Simultaneously, Dr. Duong Nguyen Hong Nhung, from the Faculty of Chemical Engineering at the University of Science and Technology - Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, presented groundbreaking research on "Packaging of Plant-Derived Compounds to Enhance Biological Activity: Applications in Agriculture and Cosmetics" during the same workshop.
Addressing the workshop, Dr. Nguyen Ba Thanh, Director of the Institute of Biotechnology in Ho Chi Minh City, emphasized the significance of nanotechnology in food, or Nanofood. This process involves various stages, spanning cultivation, breeding, packaging, and the incorporation of nanoparticles into food, enriching them with essential nutrients. The global nanomarket for food has witnessed a substantial surge in recent years. The workshop aims to foster and expand the engagement of both domestic and international intellectuals and experts in the application of nanotechnology in the realms of Food Safety and Agriculture. The overarching goal is to stimulate research, translate applied technologies into practice, and enhance the overall quality of life and society.
During the workshop, speakers engaged in discussions and addressed questions posed by both lecturers and students. Following the event, Prof. Dr. Mengshi Lin visited the library of the Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City, presenting two books, namely "Nanotechnology in the Food, Beverage, and Nutraceutical Industries" and "Food Chemical Hazard Detection: Development and Application of New Technologies." Dr. Nguyen Ba Thanh, the Director, graciously received the books and expressed gratitude for this valuable contribution.

Ông Mengshi Lin là giáo sư Khoa học Thực phẩm tại Đại học Missouri-Columbia (Mizzou) ở Missouri – Mỹ. Ông lấy bằng tiến sĩ Khoa học Thực phẩm tại Đại học Washington State (WSU) năm 2003. Sau khi tốt nghiệp, ông làm giáo sư trợ giảng-nghiên cứu tại WSU từ năm 2004-2006, và công tác tại Khoa Khoa học Thực phẩm tại Mizzou vào 11/2006. GS.TS Mengshi Lin có một bằng sáng chế của Mỹ về SERS substrate và là biên tập viên của tạp chí Food Bioscience. Ông cũng là tác giả của hơn 165 bài báo với H-index 56 và 5 chương sác về hóa học thực phẩm, polyme carbohydrate, xu hướng khoa học & công nghệ thực phẩm, ACS nano… GS.TS Mengshi Lin từng nhận được nhiều khoản tài trợ nghiên cứu về Khoa học Thực phẩm (tổng trị giá hơn 3 triệu USD) từ USDA, NSF và EPA.
TS. Dương Nguyễn Hồng Nhung hiện đang công tác tại Khoa Kỹ thuật Hóa học, Đại học Bách Khoa, Đại học Quốc gia TP. HCM. TS. Dương Nguyễn Hồng Nhung tốt nghiệp Đại học Oklahoma – Mỹ, với chuyên ngành về xúc tác và khoa học vật liệu. TS. Nhung trở về Việt Nam vào năm 2019 và thành lập nhóm nghiên cứu về công nghệ encapsulation, các hợp chất chiết xuất từ thực vật với ứng dụng trong bảo vệ thực vật và tăng cường thành phần hoạt chất cho mỹ phẩm. NanoNeem-chất bảo vệ thực vật tự nhiên của nhóm TS. Nhung đã giành được nhiều giải thưởng: Nhất cuộc thi sáng tạo HACK4GROWTH toàn cầu; "Champion toàn cầu" tại Cuộc thi Sáng tạo Doanh nghiệp Xã hội 2021 tại Canada và đứng thứ 2 tại chung kết TechFest Vietnam 2021.
