From April 18 to 20, 2026, the Faculty of Electronics Technology at Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City (IUH) organized the 5th International Conference on Intelligent Systems Design and Applications (ISDEA 2026) and the Conference on Machine Learning and Computational Intelligence (MLCI 2026). The events brought together dozens of scientists from around the world, creating a vibrant and multidimensional forum for academic exchange.

ISDEA & MLCI 2026 was more than a scientific conference. It reflected a key trend: interdisciplinary research is a foundation for global knowledge. Fifty-two full papers were presented in seven sessions, showing AI’s diversity from machine learning and computer vision to intelligent control systems and human-machine interaction.
Notably, the conference featured renowned scholars such as James Kwok from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, an IEEE Fellow and Program Chair of IJCAI 2025; Yin-Tien Wang from Tamkang University, known for research on brain-inspired machine learning; along with Weinan Gao from Northeastern University, and many experts in robotics and automation. Their participation not only deepened the academic quality of the conference but also demonstrated IUH’s growing appeal within the international research network.

Keynote presentations focused on some of the core challenges facing AI today: from multi-objective optimization in deep learning to the problem of catastrophic forgetting in machine learning, where systems struggle to retain previous knowledge while learning new information, and on the integration of language and action in intelligent robotics. All of these research directions share a common goal: bringing machines closer to the ability to understand and interact like humans. Many studies went beyond theory, focusing on practical uses in autonomous vehicles, intelligent positioning, and big data analytics. IUH and other universities pursue such links between research and society’s real needs.

Delegates from 14 countries and territories, including Vietnam, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, the United States, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Portugal, Greece, Türkiye, Oman, Peru, and Thailand, demonstrated an open academic cooperation network. IUH acted as both host and a bridge for scientists and institutions worldwide.
In addition, the presence of many Vietnamese universities and research institutes, such as Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, University of Information Technology - Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho University, and Viettel Aerospace Institute, reflects the increasingly strong synergy between domestic research institutions and the international academic community, contributing to enhancing Vietnam’s scientific standing.
