On April 8, the Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City (IUH) held a seminar titled: “Vietnamese Students Learning and Practicing for the Future, for Human Resource Development, and for Building Competitive Advantages for Businesses and the Nation.”
Professor Augustine Ha Ton Vinh emphasized that degrees alone no longer guarantee success. He argued that true competitiveness comes from blending knowledge with proven practical skills in real workplaces.
Drawing on experience across more than 20 countries, he illustrated that leadership and ethics are now core measures of training quality. His stories reinforced the need for students to focus on these outcomes.
“Businesses are not only looking for people with strong technical expertise, but also those who are responsible, thoughtful, and able to work in a global environment,” the Professor shared.
The discussion session then became the highlight of the program, as students continued to raise questions about personal development pathways, essential skills, and adapting to a constantly changing labor market. Without shying away from real-world concerns, the Professor offered candid advice: students need to proactively gain experience, build skills early, and continue learning beyond textbooks.
Many questions stood out for their sharpness and for reflecting students’ worries about job competition. To encourage learning, the Professor gave books to students who made impressive contributions.
During the event, Professor Augustine Ha Ton Vinh also donated a collection of professional books to the University Library, covering four key areas: organization, behavior, structure, and processes; leadership competencies; business ethics; and human resource management. These materials are considered valuable learning resources that will help students access in-depth, up-to-date knowledge.
