Strengthening collaboration with both universities and research-driven enterprises, the Faculty of Health Sciences at the Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City (IUH) has opened new opportunities for education, research, and technology transfer in health sciences, biotechnology, artificial intelligence, and related fields through a recent working visit to Japan.
From June 23 to 29, a delegation from the Faculty of Health Sciences, led by Prof. Dr. Tran Dinh Thang, Dean of the Faculty, visited Tokyo University of Technology (TUT) and Taiyo Kagaku Co., Ltd. During the visit, the parties explored opportunities for collaboration in education, scientific research, and technology transfer, particularly in pharmaceutical biotechnology, cosmetics, biomedical engineering, artificial intelligence, and functional food development.

Strengthen research collaboration with TUT
At Tokyo University of Technology, the IUH delegation held discussions with leaders and faculty members from the School of Bioscience and Biotechnology, the School of Bionics, the School of Computer and Media Sciences, and the School of Engineering.
Welcoming the delegation, Prof. Kazuyoshi Yano, Dean of the School of Bioscience and Biotechnology, introduced TUT's strengths in pharmaceutical biotechnology, cosmetics, molecular biology, food technology, and life sciences. He also expressed the University's interest in establishing a long-term partnership with the IUH Faculty of Health Sciences through joint research and academic exchange.
Representing IUH, Prof. Dr. Tran Dinh Thang presented the development of the Faculty of Health Sciences, its academic programs in Pharmacy, Nutrition, and Food Science, as well as its strategic focus on developing strong research groups and expanding international collaboration.

The two institutions agreed to promote collaboration in pharmaceutical biotechnology, cosmetics, molecular biology, enzyme technology, functional foods, medicinal plants, natural compounds, and the application of artificial intelligence, data science, and biomedical engineering in healthcare. They also discussed expanding faculty and student exchanges, co-supervision of postgraduate research, and the joint organization of international scientific conferences.
During the visit, the IUH delegation toured TUT's modern laboratories and learned about its education model that integrates research and innovation, particularly in artificial intelligence, robotics, biomedical engineering, and biotechnology.

The delegation also visited the Research and Development Group under the Natural Ingredient Division of Taiyo Kagaku Co., Ltd., one of Japan's leading companies specializing in the research, development, and commercialization of natural ingredients for the food, pharmaceutical, and healthcare industries.
During the visit, the IUH delegation toured TUT's modern laboratories and learned about its education model that integrates research and innovation, particularly in artificial intelligence, robotics, biomedical engineering, and biotechnology.

At the meeting, Dr. Junya Kobayashi, Division Director of the Natural Ingredient Division, introduced the company's history, development, and achievements in researching, developing, and commercializing natural ingredients for applications in functional foods, nutrition, and cosmetics.
Representatives of the IUH Faculty of Health Sciences shared the Faculty's research directions in natural compounds, medicinal plants, nutrition, functional foods, and pharmaceutical biotechnology, while introducing research groups studying bioactive compounds derived from Vietnam's natural resources.
The discussions focused on opportunities to collaborate in research on bioactive compounds from medicinal plants, the development of nutraceutical ingredients, the application of green extraction technologies, biological activity evaluation, and industry-partnered research projects aimed at technology transfer and product commercialization.
Dr. Yuuki Kasama introduced advanced technologies for analyzing and evaluating the biological functions of natural ingredients, while Prof. Kenji Hara shared Japan's successful university-industry collaboration model. He also proposed developing interdisciplinary research programs involving Tokyo University of Technology, Taiyo Kagaku Co., Ltd., and the IUH Faculty of Health Sciences.
