IUH summarizes 15 years of cooperation with the University of Liège (Belgium) 25-02-2025

From February 22 to February 24, 2025, a delegation from the Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City visited and worked with the University of Liège, Belgium (ULg). This visit provided an opportunity for both institutions to review 15 years of collaboration in student exchange programs, enhance scientific research cooperation, and explore future partnership opportunities.

At the invitation of the leadership of the University of Liège, a delegation from the Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City, led by Dr. Phan Hong Hai – Rector of the University, visited and worked at ULg from February 22 to February 24, 2025. This trip marked an opportunity to reflect on 15 years of cooperation between IUH and ULg.

At the University of Liège, Prof. A. S. Nyssen – Rector, Prof. P. Duysinx – Vice Rector for International Cooperation and Exchange, and Associate Professor Joaquim-Justo – coordinator of the cooperation program, along with professors involved in the joint project, welcomed the IUH delegation on the afternoon of February 24. During the meeting, both sides reviewed and summarized 15 years of collaboration in training and scientific research.

Since 2010, under the cooperation program between IUH and the University of Liège, 84 students have participated in exchange activities, while 33 lecturers and students have joined short-term training programs. Additionally, six IUH lecturers and students from the Institute of Environmental Science, Technology, and Management have received doctoral scholarships under the project, with two students having successfully graduated. Notably, the collaboration has resulted in two major research projects in Chemistry, Biology, and Environment, yielding highly applicable outcomes. The establishment of the Environmental Monitoring Research Center, funded by the Government of Wallonia–Brussels, along with numerous joint scientific conferences, has contributed to a significant number of prestigious international publications.

Summary report on cooperation between IUH and ULg over the past 15 years

Speaking at the meeting, Dr. Phan Hong Hai, Rector of IUH, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the leadership of the University of Liège and the professors for their invaluable support of the project: " The success of this cooperation project is largely due to the support of the university's leadership and the dedicated professors involved. They have actively sought funding sources to provide IUH faculty and students with scholarships, enabling them to participate in study and research collaborations. We deeply appreciate these efforts and look forward to expanding our partnership into other disciplines.”

After exchanging insights and summarizing the project, both sides agreed to sign a memorandum of agreement for future collaboration. Prof. A. S. Nyssen emphasized the significance of their joint cooperation projects and highly praised IUH students and trainees studying at ULg. She also reaffirmed that the University of Liège prioritizes training collaboration with IUH and aims to establish research groups utilizing funding from ARES, Wallonie-Bruxelles, and Erasmus in the coming years.

Earlier, the delegation visited key laboratories at the University of Liège, where IUH faculty and students are actively engaged in learning and research.

As part of the visit, the Rector also met with IUH lecturers and students studying at ULg, offering them encouragement and presenting traditional New Year red envelopes.

Dr. Phan Hong Hai, Rector of the University, presented New Year red envelops to lecturers from the Institute of Environmental Science, Technology, and Management who are currently studying at ULg.
