The Institute was established on 20.11.2006 directly under IUH with the main mission of teaching, science research and technology transfer. Despite being founded after other faculties, IESEM has increasingly developed the quality and scale to reach the position of a leading faculty/institute for applied research, international cooperation and postgraduate education in the university. There are currently 41 lecturers and 3 support staffs, including 2 associate professors, 7 PhD holders, 15 doctoral researchers and 17 masters of sciences in the IESEM. IESEM has the highest number of professors and ratio of doctoral researchers to total lecturers among faculties / institutes of the University.
Vision:
To become a prestigious training and research institution in Vietnam in environment field in accordance with the application direction, on level with advanced countries in Southeast Asia about personnel training, scientific research and technology transfer.
Mission:
IESEM is a prestigious national institution of training, scientific research and technology transfer. The Institute provides human resources with professional qualifications and skills accessible to practice in environmental technology, environmental resources management, environmental science, aiming to sustainable development of national economics and society, contributing to the mission of protecting the global environment.
Training quality policy: innovating, attaining new height; Dynamizing, integrating into the globe.
Objectives:
By 2020, the Institute will have:
- 14 PhD holders and 5 associate professors.
- 02 PhD programmes, 3 master programmes and 4 bachelor programmes
- International projects – BIORIST (with Germany), RENEWABLE (with Belgium), BOD (with Belgium) completed.
- Three new international projects to be deployed, prioritising for ERASMUS programme cooperated with Europe
- Research projects under the NAFOSTED system.
- Each year the number of articles with high ISI and SCOPUS index increases.
- Some intensive research laboratories to be invested by World Bank
By 2025:
- The institute has 20 doctors, 7 associate professors and 2 professors.
- More doctoral programmes will be cooperated with developed countries in Europe, Australia and America.
- 5 majors have undergraduate programmes.
- At least 5 international projects will be completed.
- There are 03 research projects under the NAFOSTED system.
- Each year there are at least 10 articles with ISI and SCOPUS.
The slogan of the IESEM is “Learning by Doing”. The core value of the IESEM includes international cooperation, scientific research, technology transfer and continuous improvement of quality of lecturers and training.
The IESEM has cooperated in postgraduate programme since 2011 and researched in RENEWABLE project with Liège University (Belgium) since 2016; researched in BIORIST project with the Technical University of Berlin (Germany) since 2016; exchanged lecturers and students in the ERASMUS+Mobility programme with Dresden University of Technology (Germany) since 2017; exchanged lecturers and students in the ERASMUS+Plastic Recycling programme with universities from Austria, Germany, Denmark, Laos and Vietnam National University, Hanoi since 2018; exchanged students (internships) with the University of Applied Sciences Jena (Germany) since 2017; researched and conducted technology transfer with Herbst Umwelttechnik GmbH (Germany) since 2016; and held annual seminars with Tokyo University (Japan). In addition, the IESEM together with Konkuk University (Korea) and Dayeh University (Taiwan) established the Asian Network for Environment and Energy (ANEE) in 2012. The IESEM has also accepted students from the University of South Florida (United States), Iowa State University (United States) and Munich University of Technology (Germany). Moreover, the IESEM cooperated with Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (Israel) in projects of the Engineers Without Borders programme to provide clean water for people in rural communities.
IESEM’s pure drinking water technology has been used by IUH in drinking water production factory that has supplied drinking water to the IUH staffs and students since 2016. The quality of bottled water in 20 liters, 330ml and 500ml bottles is accredited by Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Health.
Since 2014, IESEM students have won prestigious prizes in the science research competitions EURÉKA for students at the university level and at the regional level in the South of Vietnam. Many students have been very successful after graduation.
The IESEM is the only institute/faculty of IUH having all education levels: undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels. Undergraduate programmes have 3 specialized majors: Environmental Engineering Technology (EET), Environmental Resources Management (ERM) and Environmental Sciences (ES). To meet societal needs, the undergraduate EET was deployed earliest at the time of the foundation of the Institute in 2006. Quality assurance of the training is not only the core value but also the obligation of IESEM to the society. The undergraduate EET programme is expected to reach AUN-QA accreditation in 2018. AUN-QA accreditation will be conducted for the undergraduate ERM and ES programmes in 2022.
IESEM is divided into 4 academic departments: Environmental Technology, Environmental Management, Environmental Resources and Environmental Sciences. The EET programme is under the Environmental Technology Department. In the first semester of the 2017-2018 academic year, the IESEM will accept BSc. internships with the Environmental Engineering and Development students from the University of Applied Sciences Jena (Germany). The credit system of the IESEM in EET programme is recognized by universities in Germany and can be converted into the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS).
