IUH participated in the project "Improving the understanding of waste classification at source and basic waste treatment for elementary school children - three-legged interaction of schools, families and localities" in Dong Thap province 09-03-2022
On the afternoon of 07/03/2022, at The Cultural Hall of Long Hung B commune, Lap Vo district, Dong Thap province held the launch ceremony of the project "Improving the understanding of waste classification at source and basic waste treatment for elementary school children – three-legged interaction between schools, families and localities" is funded by the Justice Initiatives Facilitation Fund (JIFF), the European Union through the project "Strengthening Law and Justice in Vietnam (EUJULE).
Attendees at the ceremony were Ms. Tran Thi Thu Hien - Manager of JIFF Foundation - Oxfam representative in Vietnam, Mr. Pham Van Phong - Deputy Director of Dong Thap Provincial Department of Justice, Mr. Le Phuoc Sang - Vice Chairman of Long Hung B commune and representatives of 6 hamlets in Long Hung B commune, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh – Principal of Long Hung B1 Primary School, Mr. Nguyen Hong Nha – Principal of Long Hung B2 Primary School, Mr. Nguyen Trong Danh – Principal of Long Hung B3 Primary School and the project management board and representatives of agencies in Dong Thap province. Representatives of IUH include Assoc.Prof.Dr. Trinh Ngoc Nam – Head of the Information and Communications Center, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuong – Director of the Information and Communication Center and Prof. Dr. Le Hung Anh – Director of The Institute of Science and Technology & Environmental Engineering.
Starting from 2022, the Law on Environmental Protection 2020 regulates the collection of waste charges based on weight or volume instead of the average calculation by household or per capita as at present, with the aim that people will better implement the classification and reduction of waste at the source. Therefore, the project "Improving the understanding of waste classification at the source and basic waste treatment for primary school children - interaction with the three legs of schools, families and localities" is managed by Oxfam in Vietnam and the Institute of Science, Technology and Environmental Management (IESEM) of Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City received funding from JIFF and implemented the project from November 2021 to October 2022 in Dong Thap to support more professional knowledge on waste classification at source and basic waste treatment with primary school children and the community.
With the aim of improving access to the Law on Environmental Protection 2020 for people, especially vulnerable people – primary school children and disadvantaged households, and supporting them to have basic knowledge about waste, to do a good job of sorting garbage at the source. Within the framework of the project, the Board of Directors will reach out to elementary school students through the form of three-legged school, family and local braces, in order to create a solid link, helping to form children the right habits from childhood to the way of dealing with waste, closer to the right to choose an environmentally friendly lifestyle in the future.
