IUH opens Pharmacology major 10-03-2022
To cope with social demand for ensuring safety and efficiency in using pharmaceuticals, along with the available conditions of facilities, teaching staff as well as strengths in technology, Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh has registered to open a new training discipline, pharmacy from 2022. Through the meeting at the school, the Department of Science, Technology and Training - Ministry of Health highly appreciated the preparation of the school.
The training discipline meets the needs of the society
Currently, ensuring safety and effectiveness when using pharmaceuticals is of great concern. Pharmacy, especially university-educated pharmacists, plays an important role in the care and protection of the community’s health. However, human resources in the industry today do not meet the demand, mainly concentrating in big cities and working in the distribution sector. In the face of that fact, Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City (IUH) has boldly implemented a project to open a new higher education industry, the Pharmaceutical Industry. The opening of this new discipline is in line with the trend of training according to social needs that the University has been implementing throughout the past time. "The opening of the pharmaceutical industry is in accordance with the strategic objectives of the Party Committee and the Rector Board. The university has directed the Project Board to stick to Circular No. 02/2022/TT-BGDDT on the provision of conditions for opening new disciplines, on the basis of applied training orientation, in order to meet the current demand for high-quality human resources." Dr. Phan Hong Hai, the Rector, said.
Previously, the University also invited businesses to work at the school to exchange, contribute ideas and consult information about the opening of a new training discipline.
IUH fully meets the necessary conditions
One of the important reasons for IUH to implement the project to open pharmacy is that the University has a solid premise in the training of this discipline. First, IUH is one of the universities with strengths in chemistry - biology - food. The research works in the field of Chemistry - Biology - Food of the school are always highly appreciated. In 2021, in the Scimago ranking, the school's Chemistry sector ranked 5th, while the biology sector ranked 7th in the country. Currently, the University has a Professor of Analytical Chemistry and a Professor specializing in research in Natural Compounds, along with a qualified staff with Doctor Degree accounting for more than 40% of the chemistry - biology - food sector.
The next strength that IUH currently has is the system of modern practice rooms and experiments that are upgraded throughout the year, including the Chemical Technology Equipment System funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). On the basis of available resources, the school has recruited talents in pharmacy and along with that, the University has invested in additional laboratory, practical and visual tools for the health sciences sector. The learning materials are also fully prepared at the modern library system. Talking at the school, Dr. Phạm Văn Tác, Vice Chairman of the National Medical Council, Director of the Department of Science, Technology and Training - Ministry of Health said: "All health-related training sectors must aim for the ultimate goal of people's health. At the same time, he highly appreciated the preparation of the University and said that IUH meets the basic conditions of the requirements of opening a university-level pharmacist." He also asked the school to quickly complete the project and submit it to the Bureau for issuing a letter of consent to send to the Ministry of Industry and Trade as soon as possible.
