Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City Undergoes First Institutional Assessment Based on AUN-QA Standards 21-04-2025

On the morning of April 21, 2025, the Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City solemnly held the opening ceremony for its 15th AUN-QA institutional quality assessment. This marks the first time IUH has undergone an institutional Assessment based on the prestigious standards of the ASEAN University Network - Quality Assurance (AUN-QA), representing a significant milestone in its more than 65-year journey of establishment and development.

The event not only reflects IUH's determination to enhance the quality of its training and research but also affirms the university's strong commitment to international integration and its efforts to establish a solid reputation within the regional higher education landscape.

At the opening ceremony, the AUN-QA institutional assessment was officially launched with the participation of distinguished assessors and evaluators from leading universities in the region. The assessment team was led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tan Kay Chuan, and included Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ornsiri Cheunsuang, Prof. Dr. Arnulfo P. Azcarraga, Prof. Dr. Rosemary Seva, Mr. Prem Anand M. Arjunan, Assoc. Dr. Dawisa Sritanyarat, Prof. Dr. Sok Uttara, Assoc. Dr. Nuanthip Kamolvarin, along with members of the AUN-QA Secretariat.

Representing the Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City, the ceremony was attended by Dr. Phan Hong Hai - President of the University; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Trung Hieu - Vice President; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dam Sao Mai - Vice President; Dr. Nguyen Xuan Hong - Vice President; along with leaders of academic units and departments, as well as representatives of lecturers, assessors, and students.

AUN-QA assessment offers IUH an opportunity to gain an objective and comprehensive overview of all aspects of its operations. Through this process, the university can identify its strengths to further enhance, while also recognizing areas for improvement - enabling the development of targeted plans to improve training quality and learner support services.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Trung Hieu, Vice President of the University, warmly welcomed the AUN-QA Assessment Team. He emphasized, “IUH is deeply aware of the importance of ensuring and enhancing the quality of comprehensive education, viewing it as a core mission and a crucial factor for the University’s sustainable development.

He proudly highlighted IUH’s notable achievements in accreditation, including 22 programs meeting AUN-QA standards, 17 programs accredited under Circular 04/2016 by the Ministry of Education and Training, and 6 programs recognized by ABET standards. The launch of the 15th AUN-QA institutional quality assessment further affirms IUH’s ongoing commitment to ensuring quality at the institutional level, laying a strong foundation for sustainable growth and deeper international integration.

In response to IUH’s warm welcome, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tan Kay Chuan, Head of the Assessment Team, expressed his pleasure at returning to the University for the third time and witnessing its remarkable development over the years. He emphasized that this 15th AUN-QA institutional assessment marks a significant milestone in IUH’s ongoing journey toward quality enhancement. He also noted that in the upcoming week, the team would conduct the Assessment based on the established AUN-QA standards.

The AUN-QA Version 3.0 assessment focuses on three key areas: Strategy, System, and Function. Concluding his remarks, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tan Kay Chuan expressed confidence in a productive and successful working week. He also affirmed that this institutional assessment not only serves as a catalyst for IUH to achieve new milestones but also provides an opportunity to further strengthen the strong and sustainable partnership between IUH and AUN.

Over the course of seven working days at IUH, the AUN-QA assessment team will carry out a wide range of in-depth activities. These include meetings with university leaders at all levels, discussions with key stakeholders - such as lecturers, support staff, students, alumni, and employers - site visits to facilities, and participation in community service activities.

Dr. Nguyen Huy Phuc, Head of the Testing and Quality Assurance Department, which oversees training program assessments, stated: "This is the first time IUH has undergone an institutional assessment, and it is also the second university nationwide to undertake this process. This represents a significant milestone in our efforts to enhance training quality and further solidify IUH's reputation and standing on the international education map."

Through this assessment, IUH seeks to receive objective and thorough feedback from the AUN-QA team, which will guide the university in making informed adjustments and improvements to enhance the quality of its training programs and activities. This assessment is a pivotal step in reaffirming IUH's reputation as a distinguished higher education institution, both regionally and internationally.
