Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City: Promoting comprehensive innovation, developing high-quality human resources 20-10-2022
In the afternoon of 19/10, Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City solemnly held the opening ceremony of the new school year 2022-2023. Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyễn Hồng Diên attended and spoke at the ceremony.
International standard training quality
Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Phan Hồng Hải - Rector of Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City (IUH) said that in the academic year 2021-2022, when the Covid-19 pandemic broke out with unpredictable developments, caused significant impacts on the life in general and training activities of the school in particular. However, with the spirit of "changing to adapt", the school's teachers and students have actively created, applied positive teaching methods to maintain the quality of training, achieved many outstanding accomplishments.
The school's enrollment reached 101.42% of the target compared to the plan, the quality of input remained high. The percentage of students with jobs after graduation reaches over 90%.
In particular, the university continues to be ranked 601+ of the best universities in Asia by QS Education (Quacquarelli Symonds - UK) in 2021 and ranked 11th among the best in Vietnam. This organization also rated the school as meeting the QS Stars 4-Star - 4 Stars quality standard with a score of 684/500. In particular, standards such as Teaching, Facilities, Employability, Academic Development, Inclusiveness are all excellent, reaching 5 stars.
Currently, Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City has 12 training programs recognized by the Quality Assurance Organization of the Southeast Asian Universities Network (AUN-QA) and all 12 programs are highly appreciated in the preparation as well as in the implementation of the quality assurance system.
In January 2022, the University completed an external assessment of 8 training programs, including: Auditing Accounting, Analytical Chemistry, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Food Technology and 3 university-level training programs, including: Civil Engineering, Economic Law, Natural Resources and Environment Management. By 8/2022, the University has received a letter from ABET informing the programs that have met the standards, including: Mechanical Engineering Technology, Machine Building Technology, Biotechnology and Food Technology.
In the academic year 2022-2023, Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City has more than 9,000 new students enrolled, reaching 100% of the target compared to the set plan, with threshold score ranging from 18.5 to 26, the quality of input is maintained stably and improved through each academic year.
According to Dr. Phan Hồng Hải, this is a key academic year in the 5-year period of implementing the plans and strategies that the University has set out along with the goal of becoming a leading university in Vietnam, pioneering in the fields of education, applied research, technology transfer and innovation.
To continue this mission, Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City will focus on implementing a number of key tasks, including continuing to strengthen the organizational structure, fostering and improving the level of managers and lecturers, attracting highly qualified lecturers to work at the school. Strengthen the management of training, promote the evaluation and accreditation of training programs according to regional and international standards; at the same time, promoting application-oriented scientific research activities, closely following practical needs.
In addition, the school will also plan to implement the school's internationalization resolution; continue to promote the process of digitization and application of information technology in managing, maintaining and promoting activities, care services, student support, links, business cooperation, connection and community service.

Keep working towards higher achievements
At the ceremony, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyễn Hồng Diên affirmed that over the past years, Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City has always been united, creative, striving, overcoming many difficulties and challenges, achieving many positive and relatively comprehensive results in all aspects of work.
Specifically, work, enrollment, teaching, scientific research and international cooperation, making important contributions to the training and improvement of the quality of human resources in industry and trade, especially high-quality human resources, serving the cause of national construction and development. The university has focused on innovating programs, methods of organizing training and management in the direction of application, standardization, modernization, access to advanced levels of the region and the world.
At the same time, expanding professions, strengthening practice, taking learners as the center, linking training with the practical needs of society. Along with that, the school promotes investment in modern teaching facilities and equipment, strongly applies information technology in teaching, learning and management, meeting the requirements of innovation and improving training quality; promote scientific research and international integration cooperation.
As a result, the University has had a great development in terms of training scale as well as infrastructure system, teaching staff and management; the quality of graduates has been improved, more connected to the needs of society, trade and the position of the university is increasingly affirmed.
In particular, in the past 2 school years, despite being heavily affected by the Covid-19 epidemic, the school has promptly adjusted, implemented synchronously, drastically and effectively appropriate solutions, flexibly and safely adapted to the epidemic to effectively implement the dual goals of: Both effective epidemic prevention and control, maintaining professional activities, successfully completing the tasks and plans of the school year; At the same time, focusing on investing in the construction and accreditation of training programs according to international standards, evaluated by prestigious domestic and foreign organizations as one of the 11 best universities in Vietnam and in the Top 601+ best universities in Asia.
From the above achievements, on behalf of the Party Staff and leaders of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Minister Nguyễn Hồng Diên acknowledged, praised and warmly congratulated the outstanding achievements that the staff, lecturers, students and students of the University have achieved in the past academic year.
According to the minister, Vietnam is entering a new period of development. The Fourth Industrial Revolution and the digital economy are a strong development trend, bringing opportunities and advantages but also many intertwined difficulties and challenges.
The Party and State continue to define "Education and training as the top national policy"; promote the implementation of fundamental and comprehensive renovation of education and training; focusing on the development of human resources, especially high-quality human resources, to meet the requirements of industrialization, modernization of the country and international integration.
In that context, in order to continue to innovate, it is necessary to improve the quality of training and meet the development requirements of the country in the new situation. Minister Nguyễn Hồng Diên asked the Party Committee, the School Board, teachers and all students of Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City to pay attention to performing key tasks well.
First, continue to study, thoroughly observe and implement well the Party's views, policies and laws of the State; especially the Resolution of the XIII Congress of the Party and related guidelines and policies on fundamental and comprehensive reform and improvement of the quality of education and training, the focus is on higher education and vocational education. Consolidate and improve the quality of activities of institutions in the school (such as Party Committees, School Councils and socio-political mass organizations); uphold the responsibilities of party committees, organizations, heads and promote the pioneering and exemplary spirit of cadres, party members and lecturers in leading, directing and organizing the implementation of tasks in order to build and develop Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City to become the leading university of Vietnam, pioneering in the fields of education and applied research, technology transfer and innovation.
Second, continue to promote the implementation of university autonomy; innovate synchronously in both content, programs and methods, education and training methods in the direction of modernity, international integration, learner-centeredness, associated with the practical needs of society and adapted to the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Continue to invest in, exploit and effectively use modern teaching and learning facilities and equipment; especially promoting digital transformation, effectively implementing the model of digital schools and smart universities to innovate to improve the level of management and training quality. At the same time, focus on building and fostering a contingent of managers, experts and lecturers with high qualifications and professional capacity to do well in the role of administrators, guide learners, promote the positivity and initiative of students.
Third, strengthen the development of cooperation with prestigious domestic and foreign organizations, enterprises and universities to quickly access the international standard level of training, scientific research and advanced and modern production and business level of enterprises. Thereby linking training with the use and promotion of mobilizing social resources to supplement facilities, foster teaching staff, support students and build new training programs to improve the quality of student output, meet the requirements of the domestic and international labor market.
Fourth, continue to actively promote international cooperation in training, foster scientific research (not only in the field of engineering but also in academia and strategy); prioritize the development of high-quality training programs, scientific research associated with postgraduate training, commercialization of research products and technology transfer. At the same time, encouraging scientific and technological research and training of human resources in foundational industries (such as supporting industries, materials, chemicals, manufacturing, processing and electronics), contributing to improving the quality and efficiency of training, making important contributions to the sustainable development of the University, of industry and of country.
Fifth, in addition to focusing on improving the quality of professional training, the school needs to focus on building a healthy environment, learning, training and entertainment conditions; strengthen education and foster traditions, revolutionary ideals, ethics and lifestyles for students, help them to deeply understand and appreciate the traditional values and history of the university, the Party, the country, the sector and the nation; thereby nurturing dreams, ambitions, aspirations to rise, comprehensive development, harmony in both intellectual, physical and aesthetic values. From there, it creates a solid foundation for them to become honest, humane people, with high professional and technical qualifications to work effectively, while having patriotism, pride, national pride and a high sense of responsibility for the country and society.

On the occasion of the opening ceremony of the new academic year, Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City has awarded 9 scholarships to new valedictorians of all disciplines and 25 scholarships to typical students. The total amount of scholarships awarded to students up to 100 million VND is deducted from the University’s annual 60-billion-VND Student Scholarship Fund.
