11th National Chemistry Conference at IUH: Bridging Research and Practical Application 18-07-2025

Co-organized by the Faculty of Chemical Engineering at IUH and the Vietnam Association of Science and Technology for Inorganic Compounds, the 11th National Chemistry Conference remains one of the most prestigious academic platforms in the field. The event aims to provide a space for scientists to publish, share, and discuss the latest research in inorganic chemistry, rare earths, fertilizers, analytical chemistry, and related areas. It also serves as a vital opportunity for academics, educators, and businesses to connect, collaborate, and transfer knowledge for socio-economic development.

Opening Ceremony – July 17, 2025. Venue: Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City (IUH). The conference brought together more than 200 delegates, including experts, researchers, lecturers, graduate students, undergraduates, and business representatives from across Vietnam.

In his opening remarks, Prof. Dr. Acad. Đặng Vũ Minh, Honorary Chairman of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations, praised the quality and scale of the conference. He noted that this year marks the highest number of attendees to date, with over 100 students from IUH's Chemical Engineering program, more than 60 researchers and lecturers from major universities and institutes, and representatives from over 10 businesses and industry associations. The quality of the scientific program was also highly regarded, with 54 abstracts submitted and 25 selected papers published in the Journal of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.

Keynote and Specialized Sessions

At the heart of the conference was the plenary session, where leading experts discussed research directions closely tied to real-world production and the development of green technologies.

  • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Văn Cường, Dean of the Faculty of Chemical Engineering at IUH, provided an overview of the faculty's 20-year journey in education, research, and community engagement.
  • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phạm Đức Thịnh (Institute of Oceanography) presented research on bioactive compounds from brown algae and their potential applications.
  • Assoc. Prof. Dr. La Thế Vinh (Hanoi University of Science and Technology) introduced solutions for optimizing production through intelligent process control.
  • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cao Văn Hoàng (Quy Nhơn University) shared initial findings on the application of nanomaterials in high-tech agriculture and biomedicine.
  • Dr. Phạm Quang Minh (Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute) presented on the potential and prospects of rare earth micronutrient fertilizers in medicinal plant cultivation.

In addition, two parallel sub-sessions featured 16 selected reports, covering topics such as new materials, environmental treatment, microplastics, biosensors, biomedical materials, and eco-friendly catalysts. The presentations were praised for their practical relevance, innovation, and contributions to sustainable development, with many aligning with current trends in green research, the circular economy, and smart agriculture within the context of digital transformation.

Academic–Industry Connection

Notable attendees included:

  • Prof. Dr. Trần Đại Lâm, Director of the Institute of Materials Science, Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Chemistry
  • Prof. Dr. Phạm Hùng Việt, Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Physics – Chemistry – Biology
  • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Trần Lê Quan, Rector of the University of Science – VNU-HCM
  • ...alongside representatives of research centers and major enterprises. Their diverse participation enriched the discussions and opened new doors for collaboration between academia and industry.

Speaking at the event, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Đàm Sao Mai, Vice Rector of IUH, emphasized the conference's role in disseminating knowledge and enhancing the quality of education and research. She advocated making the conference an annual event. She encouraged research tailored to industry demands—especially in areas such as nanomaterials, smart fertilizers, traceability, and biomedical chemistry—to meet the evolving needs of the AI and digital economy era.
