Spreading "Active Citizenship in Community Service" at IUH 18-04-2023
Following the success of previous Active Citizen training courses (British Council copyrighted social leadership training program), from 14-16/04/2023, Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City. HCMC organized the 5th Active Citizenship Training Course in 2023 with the theme "Active Citizenship in Community Service". The training course attracted the participation of 30 students.
The 5th Active Citizenship – Community Service Training Program was held at IUH.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the training course, Master Nguyen Thi Thuong – Director of the Information and Communication Center, Head of the Program Organizer said: "The training has been refined compared to the original British Council program to suit Vietnamese culture, as well as adapt to the context and meet the training needs at the Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City Chi Minh."

In addition to interesting modules such as: I - Identity and Culture, Multicultural Dialogue, We Together, Social Action Planning; Students also participated in many new activities such as "Globingo" (learn unexpected things from students), "Building a vision" (understanding and analyzing IUH's core values), "Tree of Expectations" (discovering expectations and establishing consensus in the course), "Global Snap" (playing card connecting local and global community issues), "Listening to three levels" (listening to the same story in 3 different lenses) ... In the form of individual activities to group activities, community, games integrating knowledge, the course conveyed to students the necessary messages and skills for an active citizen in a multicultural environment, ready to listen and actively learn, solve problems in the community they live in.

After the 3-day training, the participants were inspired to become active citizens, equipped with tools to develop creative thinking, as well as guided in the process of exploring problems and building projects to serve the community. Returning to the program for the 2nd time, Ms. Nguyen Thi Chau – Deputy Director of Student Counseling and Support Center shared: "When I returned to the program, as Co-Faci (Coordinator), I learned many new and interesting things. After attending the 2022 training, I applied methods like Tree of Expectation, Globingo,.. in my class, and students are very excited about my subject, which also makes the classtime more effective. Returning to the program this time, I want to spread positive citizenship and share with the trainees what I have learned through that 2022 training."

As an active student in the course, Tran Bao Duy – student of the Faculty of Commerce and Tourism shared: "What I find most impressive about the program is that it makes it easy for me to share and talk about what I really think, with a relaxed attitude and respect for differences. This program has really helped me add a lot of things, and make many new friends. After participating in the program, my friends and I have connected together to be able to carry out community service projects in the future."

Active Citizenship is implemented by the British Council in partnership with civil society organisations around the globe. The program began in 2009 and is currently being implemented in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Southeast Asia. To date, the program has reached more than 100,000 people through training courses, seminars, social studies and international study trips.
