Closing a Memorable Journey: IUH Students Complete Nuclear Power Training in Russia 11-08-2025

A group of students from the Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City (IUH) has just concluded a remarkable two-week journey in the Russian Federation, participating in a summer training course on nuclear power at Ural Federal University (UrFU). The delegation included Phạm Ngô Quyền Anh and Lê Mạnh Duy (Faculty of Electrical Engineering Technology), along with Nguyễn Chí Thiện, Huỳnh Thanh Phong, and Nguyễn Thị Thu Hà (Faculty of Chemical Engineering).

Departing from Ho Chi Minh City, the students endured a nearly 16-hour flight to reach Yekaterinburg, a historic and culturally rich city in Russia. From July 21 to August 3, 2025, they not only studied but also explored the country renowned for its diverse culture and leading scientific achievements.

On the first day, the IUH students joined the opening ceremony of the Summer University (SU) program, alongside more than 400 participants from countries such as Russia, India, China, Chile, and Uzbekistan. Vietnam’s delegation consisted of five IUH students and three from Hanoi. The proud moment of raising the national flag at UrFU’s campus left a lasting impression on the students.

During lectures, experienced professors guided them through the complete process of developing a nuclear power plant—from atomic reactions to electricity generation. A highlight was a talk by a Vietnamese alumnus of UrFU, now working at the Institute of Energy in Hanoi, who shared insights about the Ninh Thuận nuclear power project, including detailed workforce requirements for each plant.

Beyond theory, the students observed scale models of nuclear power plants, particle accelerators at isotope production and sterilization facilities, and took part in international teamwork projects. They collaborated on creating a website to raise public awareness of nuclear energy and joined the HackAtom competition. In addition, they engaged in sports, museum visits, and local cultural experiences—turning each day into a new diary filled with unforgettable memories.

Reflecting on the opportunity, Phạm Ngô Quyền Anh shared: “I was fortunate to join this program thanks to my strong academic performance, multiple scholarships, a B2 English certificate, and success in the faculty’s interview process. This is a valuable chance for me to broaden my vision and build international connections.”

Over just 14 days, the IUH delegation not only gained professional knowledge but also received comprehensive support from UrFU and the Russian Ministry of Education, covering airfare, accommodation, and living expenses. This allowed them to fully dedicate themselves to learning and exploration, while nurturing aspirations to contribute to Vietnam’s nuclear energy sector.

The journey stands as both a personal achievement and a testament to IUH’s strong commitment to international cooperation. For years, the university has sought opportunities to expose students to cutting-edge global technologies, particularly in nuclear energy—an area considered strategically vital for the future. The experience provides a solid foundation for these students to continue striving and contributing to Vietnam’s sustainable development and modernization in the years ahead.
