Opening Ceremony for the school year 2021 - 2022 11-11-2021

On the morning of November 11, 2021, Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City (IUH) solemnly held the opening ceremony of the academic year 2021 - 2022. The opening ceremony of the 2021-2022 school year was held on the 65th anniversary of the institution establishment from November 11, 1956 to November 11, 2021. It was the first time IUH organized an Opening Ceremony online.

Attending the ceremony, there were representatives from the Ministry of Industry and Trade - Mr. Nguyễn Thế Hiếu - Deputy Director General of Personnel and Organisation, Mr. Nguyễn Quang Huy - Deputy Director General of the Southern Department; representatives from Quacquarelli Symonds Education Organization (QS) - Mr. Samuel Ang – Representative Director of QS Asia, along with the Party Committee, The Board of Rectors, The Executive Committee of trade unions, youth unions, student unions, and nearly 10,000 students who are representatives of more than 30,000 students from various cohorts. The opening ceremony of the school year 2021 - 2022 is the most special opening ceremony in the 65-year history of the establishment and development of the institution, when IUH's teachers and students attended the opening ceremony online for the first time.

Dr. Phan Hồng Hải – Party Secretary and Rector of IUH delivered the opening speech of the 2021-2022 school year. Summing up the school's activities, the Rector said that the school year 2020 - 2021 was a difficult one due to the impact of COVID-19, affecting the teaching and learning process of lecturers and students throughout the school, but teachers and students have made great efforts to overcome it, and achieving notable results in all aspects.

In 2020, the Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City was ranked top 5 universities in Vietnam by Webometrics for the first time, TOP 601+ best universities in Asia in 2020 and 10th among the best universities in Vietnam according to the QS Education Organization (Quacquarelli Symonds, United Kingdom). In September 2021, IUH achieved the 4-star QS Star quality standard – 4 Stars with a score of 684/500 evaluated and ranked by the QS Organization.

Scientific research and technology transfer, especially the number of articles published in international journals in the ISI/Scopus category, increased by 1.9 times compared to the same period last year. The university continues to expand its network of cooperation with countries like UK, USA, Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Belgium.  IUH’s relations with consuls general of countries such as Italy, Cuba, Hungary, India become more and more connected. The signed international linkage projects continue to be implemented simultaneously with new potential projects.

In the academic year 2021 - 2022, the University has more than 8,000 new students, reaching 100% of the set target, with recruiting scores ranging from 18.5 to 26, the input quality is maintained stably and improved through each academic year.

At the ceremony, on behalf of QS Education Organization, Mr. Samuel Ang congratulated IUH on the occasion of its 65th anniversary, the achievements that IUH's teachers and students have gained during the development and the opening ceremony of the school year 2021-2022. Mr. Samuel Ang said that with the effort, IUH fully deserves to achieve 4 stars overall in the QS Stars rankings, this is the highest level that the university in Vietnam has received, these results are a testament to the effectiveness of the activities that the University is carrying out to achieve these goals.

On this occasion, the university has rewarded 09 new students who are valedictorian of the 2021 entrance exam and 25 outstanding students for their academic and training achievements in the school year 2020 - 2021 in order to encourage the learning spirit of IUH students. Scholarships for students are extracted from the Scholarship Fund that encourages learning and tuition support for all students.

With the core values: Innovation - Solidarity - Humanities, promoting achievements in the past year, the University identified specific goals for the academic year 2021-2022 as: Pioneering in the fields of education and research; Promoting connections for community service; Building a modern educational institution; Attracting high-quality resources domestically and abroad; Investment and income are stable and sustainable.
