IUH’student won bronze medal, the unique one of Vietnam team, in the WorldSkills Competition Abu Dhabi 2017 23-10-2017

The 44th WorldSkills Competition 2017 in Abu Dhabi (UAE) has been completed after 4 days of struggling competing. This was the largest WorldSkills Competition to date; 6 out of 12 Vietnam competitors received medal and excellent skill certificates. Vietnam national flag was raised with other ones in the closing ceremony at the du Arena in Abu Dhabi of United Arab Emirates (UAE). At the closing ceremony, the UAE’s representative also handed over of the WorldSkills flag to Russia’s representative, the next host of the 45th WorldSkills Competition 2019 in Kazan.

According to the Ministry of Labour, War invalids and Social Affairs, there were 51 skills in the 44th WorldSkills Competition (49 were Competition Skills and 2 were Exhibition Skills), with 1,258 competitors from 58 countries and regions. There were 12 competitors participating in 12 skills (as skill team), including: Mechatronics (working as team), Information Network Cabling, Electronics, Cooking, Water Technology, Concrete Construction Work, Electrical Installation, Automobile Technology, CNC Turning, Industrial Control, Mechanical Engineering CAD, IT software solutions for business. Vietnam has been participating in 5 WorldSkill Competitions from 2007, totally received 24 certificates of excellence. In the 43th WorldSkills Competition Sao Paulo 2015, it was the first time Vietnam won a bronze medal in the IT software solutions for business.

The unique medal of Vietnam team in the WorldSkills Competition Abu Dhabi 2017 was the IT software solutions for business won by Tran Nguyen Ba Phuoc, student of the Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City (IUH). Vietnam team also won 5 certificates of excellence. In particularly, they were Nguyen Van Tuan (Mechanical Engineering CAD), Nguyen Tat Toai (Industrial control), Tong Tho Hoa (Concrete Construction Work) Chu Van Tuoi (Electrical Installation) and Vu Hoang Trinh (Cooking).

Tran Nguyen Ba Phuoc had been selected from NationSkills Competition, and then, to be trained at Samsung Worldskills training center from July 2016 to September 2017.

During the training in Korea, Tran Nguyen Ba Phuoc was systematically trained by excellent instructors who had won medals at Worldskills Competitions. Phuoc was not only trained in general skills such as planning - doing assignments - analyzing problems - examining the end, but also practicing other skills needed at the actual exam. Currently, Phuoc is working in the R&D Division of Samsung Electronics Vietnam Company and Samsung Mobile R&D Center.

This was the second time Vietnam won the bronze medal, after the one in 2015 when the competitor Nguyen Duy Thanh who was also IUH’s student and won bronze medal.

Tran Nguyen Ba Phuoc was born in 1995. He would had been graduated last year but postponed his study due to the skill involvement. In 2015, after winning the first prize in the NationSkill Competition, he was dispatched to Korea to participate in training course hosted by Samsung Electronics Vietnam to prepare for the Worldskills Competition 2017.

Before Tran Nguyen Ba Phuoc, in the 43rd WorldSkill Competition in Sao Paulo, Brazil, competitor Nguyen Duy Thanh, who was also the student of IUH and trainee at Samsung Skills Training Center in Suwon, Korea, won bronze medal – the highest achievement and also the first medal Vietnam team won in WorldSkill Competition.

The dispatch of Tran Nguyen Ba Phuoc and Nguyen Duy Thanh to attend the training course at Samsung Skills Training Center in Korea before participating in the WorldSkill Competition is the result of socializing policy of training and taking competition. The General Directorate of Vocational Training is in corporation with ministries, bodies, vocational education institutions, domestic and foreign enterprises to promote socialization in vocational training, organizing in order to provide opportunities for students approaching modern technology requested at competition level, directly compete with the other competitors from stronger countries who had used to win gold medal or high rank in previous competition, especially to take advantage of experience and qualifications of experts and former foreign competitors in training Vietnamese candidates in some occupations. This innovative approach increases the strength of the Vietnam team in order to be able to win the medal in the world's highest technology-skill competition.

Following such cooperative manners, Vietnam team received supports from foreign sponsors. In particularly, CNC Turning and Industrial Control skills were sponsored by Denso Vietnam Co., Ltd. from Japan in which candidates, experts and interpreters were trained in a month in Germany; Mechanical Engineering CAD and IT software solutions for business skills were sponsored by Samsung Electronics Vietnam Co., Ltd. from South Korea in which the candidates who had been selected from the NationSkill 2016 and experts and interpreters were trained in a month in South Korea.
