Introduction of Faculty of Accounting and Auditing:

Faculty of Accounting and Auditing, formerly known as Faculty of Economics - Industrial College 4, was established since 1998. In 2004, Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City (IUH) was formed from Industrial College 4. The increasingly demand of studying for economics majors resulted in the establishment of Faculty of Finance and Accounting detached from Faculty of Economics. In 2008, the Principle of Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City signed a Decree No 333/QĐ-ĐHCN to separate the Faculty of Accounting and Auditing from Faculty of Finance and Accounting to facilitate management, improve the quality of training and to meet the demand of dramatically increase in number of students.
IUH is a multi-disciplinary university with various levels and modes of education, from undergraduates to graduates and has many courses with different educational institutions. Even though the amount of time of establishing is 5 years, Faculty of Accounting and Auditing has been the only place that provides training of accounting for 15 years since 1998. After an amount of time, Faculty of Accounting and Auditing has focused on building qualified teachers, curriculums and on investment in research and initially gained many achievements.

In recent year, the Faculty has regularly evaluated, reviewed and adjusted the curriculum based on the conclusions of the Council of Science and Faculty of Accounting and Auditing, on the framework program education issued by Ministry of Education and Training and on the new regulations issued by IUH. The educational training focuses on increasing hours of practice and on self-study time of students. The Faculty has reviewed units outline in order to gain unanimity about all subjects’ basic contents in curriculum. Based on that, the Faculty creates a bank of multiple choice questions and of theoretical questions. The Faculty finished the compilation and appraisal of 18 subjects including Principle of Accounting; Financial Accounting part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4; Managerial Accounting; Accounting Information System part 1, part 2, part 3; Auditing part 1, part 2; etc. The Faculty has specially offered Special Subject that provides students practical examples of recording business transactions to journal and ledgers, of preparing financial statements since 2003. Auditing part 2 has been taught students to practice auditing through model auditing documents issued by Vietnam Association of Certified Public Accountants (VACPA) since 2010. Educational training of the Faculty is successful on providing students practical knowledge and skills that will be useful in their future career. The Faculty also successfully finished “Graduation Requirements” for Accounting and Auditing major and teaching methods are always improved and kept up to date.

Research activities of teaching staffs and students:
Research activities are always encouraged and supported by Faculty of Accounting and Auditing. Lecturers and students have participated 8 conferences since 2015 with the number nearly 2,500. So far there are 24 research done by students and 42 research done for lecturers. All research are highly appraised for the purpose of educating and training, especially the research title “Construction the simulation of accounting process in Faculty of Accounting and Auditing - Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City”.

Up to 2014, teaching staffs attended 12 national conferences and 4 international conferences. The national conferences including “Financial Strategy in the Changing Economy” organized by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) with the attendance of 15 teaching staffs and “Update International Standards on Auditing and the orientations for improving Vietnam Standards on Auditing” hold by the cooperation between VACPA and Open University with the attendance of 16 teaching staffs. In this conference, the dean of Faculty of Accounting and Auditing – Doctor Tran Phuoc - presented with the research titled “Research on Big Four’s audit process of information systems in supporting Vietnam firms in trend of international practices integration”. This presentation was received highly appraisals from academics and practitioners. Moreover, four teaching staffs attended the international conference named “Innovation in teaching accounting in Vietnam universities” hold by the cooperation between ACCA and Vietnam Association of Accountants and Auditors (VAA). Two of four lecturers presented in this conference and received many compliments.
Staffs capacity building:
In recent years, Faculty of Accounting and Auditing focuses on building staffs’ capacity in order to ensure the quantity and the quality for the aim of teaching and research. The Faculty also concentrates on training for teaching staffs. Our teaching staffs are young, enthusiastic, and energetic and always strive to assigned missions.
The total number of teaching staffs is 59 people with 1 Associate Professor, 16 doctors and research students, 36 masters and postgraduates and 6 graduates.
With more 17 years of formation and development of Accounting and Auditing, all teaching staffs strive for better results and for achieving assigned missions in order to make IUH become one of the most qualified and famous universities in Vietnam.
